Your Role

We are seeking to appoint an Engineer/Transportation Officer in the Traffic Management Team. The post-holder will assist with the delivery of the Council’s statutory duties under the Highways Act 1980, New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and Traffic Management Act 2004 in terms of the management of the public highway. The post will be based within the Streetworks section, part of the Traffic Management Team. Responsibilities will mainly revolve around utility and third-party excavations in the public highway, undertaking inspections for both sample and defects as well as processing information, taking part in and arranging site meetings, representing the Council with third party representatives. You will also assist in the co-ordination of Stockport Council’s Network Management duties and will be working with Developers, Contractors and other Key Stakeholders to agree works, check site procedures are being undertaken correctly in line with Codes of Practice and check reinstatements once completed, meets performance targets and meets the Council’s Corporate Objectives.

About You

Candidates will ideally come with experience of Streetworks/Highways or Utilities background. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite is essential, and you will be able to confidently adapt to using job specific computer systems, for example Streetmanager, QGIS. You will need to have good communication skills to cope with the high level of customer interaction. Ability to work unsupervised and plan and manage your own tasks to meet deadlines, performance targets, generate revenue and meet the Council’s Corporate Objectives. Driving licence & access to own vehicle is essential, as you will be undertaking site visits daily.
