Charnwood Nursery school & family centre is an OFSTED OUTSTANDING rated pre-school who are looking to appoint a Site Manager to join the small and friendly team in Heaton Moor, Stockport. Interviews for this role will be held in our Nursery during Summer close down, W/C 4th August 2025.

We are seeking a positive, flexible and caring individual who is willing to contribute fully to the life of the nursery and who are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

In this role you will be part of a small team which supports the nursery children, parents and staff by ensuring the smooth and safe running of Charnwood nursery. The site manager has a responsibility is to ensure that our sites are secure, clean and well maintained, meet health and safety standards, and continue to feel fresh and inviting. Like a ll the nursery staff team you will be expected to work in sympathy with Charnwood’s Christian ethos, and enable each child to feel special and secure.

Principal Accountabilities

  • You are a practical person, with experience of general maintenance and grounds works.
  • You can follow instructions well (eg constructing flat-pack furniture).
  • You are well-organised and able to identify and set work priorities.
  • You understand safe working practices and health and safety legislation.
  • You have a thorough approach to work, and can use your initiative.
  • You are a caring, outgoing and approachable individual, who has good verbal communication skills with both children and adults.
  • You are able to support Charnwood’s Christian ethos, and able to work within its principles.
  • You can effectively be part of a small team and also work on your initiative.
  • You are able to adjust your hours of work sometimes to accommodate job requirements.
  • You are able to work within safeguarding principles.
  • You are happy to work on your own using initiative where necessary.
  • You are able to identify possible hazards and create solutions to avoid danger on site.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

1.1 Maintain appropriate site security which keeps children and the sites safe. Be a point of contact in an emergency, responding to out of hours police and alarm company call outs.

1.2 By schedule, clean hard to reach areas, such as strip lights, and other areas as needed.

1.3 Maintain a good state of repair across the nursery floors.

1.4 Carry out any general repairs where necessary. If not able to repair arrange, together with the Business Manager arrange for the repair to take place

1.5 Maintain site equipment to meet health and safety regulations ensuring safe and efficient use.

1.6 Ensure we have all stock needed to carry out your responsibilities.

2. Grounds Maintenance

2.1 In consultation, maintain the gardens in good order, suitable for children’s use, and keep “public areas” eg the car park and road access tidy and free from litter. Clear leaves, trim hedges, shrubs and grass, involve children in maintaining beds and pots and hanging baskets. Remove moss and weeds from hard surfaces. Look after water features.

2.2 Plan for extreme weathers. Clear and grit snow and ice to maintain safe access for children, adults and deliveries.

2.3 Ensure drains and gullies are kept free of blockages. Regularly check sewers and rod when necessary.

2.4 Keep bin areas tidy, ensuring rubbish is recycled and taken out on correct days for collection.

2.5 Keep outdoor storage areas tidy.

3. Health and Safety, Maintenance and repairs

3.1 Test fire warning and evacuation systems and maintain test register.

3.2 Together with the Business Manager arrange and record various maintenance contracts

3.3 Take responsibility for regular health and safety checks, including COSHH, Legionella, and resolve any issues. Maintain test registers.

3.4 Problem solve minor repairs quickly and safely.

3.5 In consultation with the Business Manager, carry out planned maintenance programmes.

3.6 Identify any requirements for major repairs with the Business Manager, and liaise with contactors where necessary. Monitor trades people on site

3.7 Play a significant role in premises improvements.

3.8 Participate in training as appropriate.

3.9 Report meter reading where needed.
