Charnwood Nursery school & family centre is an OFSTED OUTSTANDING rated pre-school who are looking to appoint a Finance Officer to join the small and friendly team in Heaton Moor, Stockport. Interviews for this role will be held in our Nursery during Summer close down, W/C 4th August 2025.

Person Profile

You will be a good team player with a strong financial background and supporting qualifications. You will have the necessary skills and experience to manage day to day financial activity with a high attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines. You will have the flexibility to deal with a variety of queries from internal staff, families and external suppliers. You will be able to communicate effectively to ensure a wider understanding of our financial position across the Senior Leadership Team and Trustee board. You will be enthusiastic about working in a nursery environment.

Principal Accountabilities

  • To manage the day-to-day financial activity of the Trust
  • To manage the payroll via an external agency and input salaries correctly and ensure staff are paid on time
  • To manage income by invoicing for services with Local Authorities and Parents
  • Manage the funding claim through the local authority portal, with supporting information from necessary staff
  • Ensure we are receiving all entitlements including DAF and EYPP payments
  • Report any financial concerns to the Business Manager

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Carrying out the financial administration for the Trust, including invoicing, petty cash, reconciliation, Expenses, and Gift Aid returns
  • Managing the administration of the payroll with an external provider, ensuring accuracy and that staff receive their salary on time
  • Maintaining financial records and filing systems for all transactions currently using Liberty Accounts
  • Chasing outstanding accounts and agreeing payment plans if required
  • Produce a half termly cash flow reports for the Trustee board
  • Reporting on spend against budget for Teachers and other budget holders to ensure spend within allocated funds
  • Supporting the Senior Leadership Team and Treasurer with the setting and ongoing management of the nursery budget
  • Managing restricted and unrestricted funding ensuring that money is allocated correctly
  • Updating our funding claim through the Stockport Council Early Years Portal to ensure we receive funding for all Children who are entitled
  • Ensuring we are claiming all DAF and EYPP payments for all eligible Children
  • Monitoring and reviewing financial processes to ensure effectiveness and efficiency
  • Support with the ordering of supplies ensuring we have access to the most cost-effective supplies and resources
  • Manage the processes for petty cash payments with the support of the admin team, ensuring income and expenditure is recorded and money is stored securely
  • Be available to meet on site during the school holidays if required by the Business Manager/Headteacher. Working outside of term time hours will be paid as an extra.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

  • To understand and follow Charnwood policies and procedures
  • To ensure the wellbeing of the children and follow the Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures where you have any concerns
  • To report any health and safety concerns you notice to the Business Manager as soon as possible
  • To attend training and team days as appropriate
  • To assist with various extra nursery activities, including open evenings, celebration events, support groups, children’s parties and fund raising events as requested by the Senior Leadership Team
