We are looking for a Yard Operative to join our team at Appleton on a full-time, permanent basis.

Job Description

Shift: 4 ON 4 OFF Nights - 18:00pm to 06:00am

Salary: £30,977 per annum

As a Yard Operative, you will play a key role in supporting the smooth operation of the yard and ensuring trailers are organised, positioned, and ready for operational requirements. You will work closely with the wider transport team to maintain an efficient and safe yard environment while adhering to all Health & Safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organising and managing trailers within the yard to support operational requirements.
  • Using a Forklift Truck (FLT) to move loads between trailers safely and efficiently.
  • Loading and unloading trailers as required.
  • Sorting and processing returned goods in line with company procedures.
  • Ensuring trailers are correctly positioned and available for planned collections and deliveries.
  • Carrying out routine yard checks and reporting any defects, damage, or safety concerns.
  • Completing day-to-day administrative tasks and operational reporting accurately and on time.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and organised working environment at all times.
  • Operating all equipment in line with safe systems of work and company procedures.
  • Working collaboratively with transport, warehouse, and operational teams to support business requirements.

Qualifications

As the successful candidate, you will be organised and have a high level of commitment and motivation. You will also:

  • Have good attention to detail and be able to work effectively in a busy outdoor environment.
  • Be comfortable carrying out administrative tasks and completing operational reports.
  • Have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Possess a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Hold an FLT licence (desirable) or be willing to undertake relevant training.
  • Experience in a yard, warehouse, transport, or logistics environment would be advantageous; however, full training will be provided for the right candidate.
