Job Description: Working within the Business Development Team, the key accountability of the Head of Solution Development is to effectively bridge business commercial challenges with innovative solutions to drive implementation strategies that deliver impactful results. Analysing data and requirements and designing appropriate, commercially competitive, solutions for transport operations.

Working hours: Monday to Friday, between the hours of 07.00 & 18.00 (40 hour week)

Key Duties of Head of Solutions Development:

  • Technical Leadership: Act as a technical lead on business development, winning proposals through compelling presentations and innovative solutions.
  • Stakeholder Influence: Challenge the status quo and drive business value by leveraging industry trends, best practices, and advanced technologies. Collaborate with businesses and risk partners to write effective solution design documents, and customer tender responses.
  • Project Management: Collaborate with business partners and operational teams to create project timelines, milestones, and communication plans.
  • Agile and Design Thinking: Apply agile methodologies, design thinking, and user journey mapping to drive innovation and manage projects.
  • Data Analysis: Analyse data and trends to design innovative strategies for operational efficiency.
  • Implementation: Translate business challenges into valuable products and services, leading the design and implementation of solutions from vision through to operational success. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments in the industry through membership of a professional body (e.g. CILT), attending industry events and training courses. Support the development of other members of the business development team. Support the implementation of new contracts.

Qualifications:

  • Successful track record working in a logistics solutions design role with commercial accountability.
  • Ability to lead a team through a tender and business development process and produce high quality results.
  • Transport systems understanding, an in-depth knowledge of transport operations, logistics, supply chain, fleet management and multimodal transport systems.
  • Familiarity with transport scheduling, route optimisation and smart mobility platforms is essential.
  • Business Acumen: Knowledge of business processes, product lifecycles, market trends, and regulatory considerations is critical to align technical solutions with strategic objectives.
  • Industry Insight: Awareness of emerging technologies, digital platforms, cloud computing, AI integration, and cybersecurity is increasingly important to stay competitive and innovative.
  • Current and in-depth understanding of commercial logistics rates and profit & loss.
  • Confident communicating with Senior Management, Key Stakeholders and customers up to and including Board Level.
  • A highly confident and proactive individual able to represent the company and customer.
  • Capable of working under pressure to meet critical deadlines and complete objectives.
  • Ability to use industry-recognised simulation and modelling tools is not essential but may be advantageous e.g. CLASS, CAST, Paragon etc.
