Job Description

Reporting into the Transport Manager, you will work collaboratively to ensure effective running of a busy transport operation, ensuring that Operational KPIs are met and that the operations are conducted strictly in accordance with legal requirements, whilst helping to formulate and deliver the short, medium and long-term resource plans for your area. Full time, permanent position. Working 4 on 4 off nights, 18.00-06.00. Salary: £38,000 per annum plus £3,792.21 per annum allowance.

Key Duties of a Transport Shift Manager:

  • Work collaboratively with our Myworkforce team ensuring compliance of all MWF activity and tasks including resource planning and managing the safety and cost-effective utilisation of all drivers and equipment.
  • Responsible for owning, monitoring, and controlling the dispatching and de-briefing process to ensure that agreed standards of performance are consistently achieved by effective communication and management.
  • Manage and support driver workforce whilst engaged on activity to ensure full legal compliance.
  • Ensure records are correctly completed and maintained in accordance to the procedure.
  • Manage all aspects of driver performance to achieve or surpass expectations and KPI's.
  • Promote company Health & Safety and employment policies within the transport operation.
  • Ensure all personnel files are up to date incorporating licence validation, personal details, completed training.
  • Responsible for site audits and works closely with the Transport Manager to ensure KPIs are met.
  • Support the daily operational workflow on the customer site by providing answers to urgent queries.
  • Actively work with the customer and site management team to achieve performance addressing any concerns or questions within a timely manner.
  • Manage the recruitment of permanent and temporary staff as required to cover business peaks.
  • Ensure that the Transport Manager & the H&S team are made aware of all accidents, dangerous occurrences & near misses and that the relevant reports are completed for all such incidents.
  • Responsible for identifying and escalating any maintenance and repair issues on site and within depot.
  • Ensure that all daily vehicle check, vehicle inspection & defect reporting procedures are in place.
  • Administer the vehicle and trailer maintenance programme, including servicing, MOTs, VOR, weekly cab checks and maintaining all records.
  • Responsible for coordinating and attending investigation/ disciplinary hearings as required.
  • Support and collaboratively work with the Transport Manager on any Depot initiatives to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for co-ordinating overtime payments, processing of driver expenses and enabling resolution of pay queries.
  • Carry out and support with Depot administrative tasks.
  • Collaboratively work with the Transport Manager during driver recruitment and on-boarding.
  • Ensure all training needs are met for drivers (including inductions, re-training, SSW etc.).
  • Take the lead in resolving unforeseen problems as they arise ensuring appropriate resolution of these to utilise the learning to plan for future similar scenarios.
  • Build constructive working relationships with supplementary business departments such as MWF, Fleet, HR, Planning and Finance which are based on mutual trust and respect.
  • Any other duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record in Transport & Logistics industry.
  • Demonstrable experience of successful resource management.
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills.
  • Proven track record of working to clearly defined service delivery KPI's.
  • Excellent understanding of Health and Safety processes.
  • Good people engagement skills, self-driven, positive can-do attitude.
  • Thrives in a fast paced, challenging and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to maintain the very highest levels of attention to detail even when under pressure.
  • Good analytical skills, uses data to inform decisions and direct activity.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office knowledge including Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
