Our friendly Appleton site are now recruiting for a new Desktop Engineer Trainee to provide support to the Desktop Engineering Team within Fleet Department, assisting with day-to-day operational activities to ensure that team objectives are consistently achieved. You will develop and apply best working practices that contribute to the reduction of group-wide asset VORs, while supporting the preparation of accurate, timely, and meaningful KPI reporting under the direction of senior team members. This position is intended as a structured development role, offering the opportunity to build relevant skills, knowledge, and experience, with the potential to progress into a full Desktop Engineer role subject to demonstrated competency and performance.
Salary: Up to £31,000 per annum DOE
Working hours: Monday - Friday, 08:30 - 17:30
Key responsibilities:
- Supporting Desktop Engineers with day-to-day operational activities and administrative tasks.
- Assisting in the preparation of reports for senior management updates, under the guidance of the DTE team.
- Maintaining weekly fleet KPI trackers, including updating data and producing clear visual summaries.
- Updating daily VOR (Vehicle Off Road) reports with accurate and timely repair information.
- Acting as a first point of contact for transport teams regarding truck and trailer VOR enquiries.
- Following up with external vendors to obtain repair progress updates.
- Gathering and collating repair estimates for review by the DTE team.
- Assisting with the onboarding of new suppliers, ensuring required documentation and information is captured.
- Supporting the coordination of asset repairs, helping to track timelines and communicate expected completion dates.
Qualifications:

- Educated to GCSE or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a similar role, preferably within the logistics or transport industry.
- Self‑motivated and proactive, with a positive, hands‑on approach to work.
- Engineering and/or maintenance work is desirable.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with demonstrated experience in preparing pivot tables and graphical reports.
- Hold a valid Category C+E driving licence (desirable).
- Confident and professional telephone manner, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
