About us

S+S is at an exciting point in its growth journey, with ambitious plans to scale our business over the next few years. We design and manufacture thoughtfully crafted, high-quality products that prioritise function, durability and tasteful design.

As we continue to develop new products and bring more production in-house, we’re growing our workshop and product team. We’re looking for practical, detail-driven people who enjoy making things well and care deeply about how products are designed, developed and finished.

The role

This is an exciting opportunity to join S+S at a pivotal moment in our growth. As Sewing & Product Development Technician, you’ll play a hands-on role in the creation, refinement and production of our products.

You’ll work closely with the founders and wider operations team to support product development — from prototyping and sampling through to small production runs. This is a practical, varied role for someone who is confident with sewing machines, enjoys problem-solving, and wants to help shape well-made products from idea to finished items along with small batch, UK production from upcycled materials along with repairs.

B CORP CERTIFIED

We are proud to be part of a global community of businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental impact.

Responsibilities

  • Sew prototypes, samples and small production runs to a high standard
  • Support product development from initial concepts through to final designs
  • Work with a variety of materials and fabrics, testing construction methods and finishes
  • Make adjustments and refinements to patterns, designs and processes
  • Carry out quality checks to ensure consistency, durability and finish
  • Support general workshop tasks including cutting, preparation, assembly and packing
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment
  • Work closely with the operations team to meet development and production timelines
  • Help improve construction methods, efficiency and repeatability
  • As a small, growing business, be willing to help with tasks outside your brief as required

Skills required

  • Confident using industrial or domestic sewing machines
  • Experience sewing durable products (bags, covers, accessories, workwear or similar)
  • Sail making / marine sewing / knowledge
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work
  • Practical, hands-on mindset with good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Interest in product development, construction methods and materials
  • Understanding of the S+S brand and enthusiasm to be part of our growth
  • Pattern cutting or technical product development experience is a plus, but not essential

Benefits of working at S+S

  • A creative working environment and supportive team culture
  • Workplace pension offered through NEST
  • 28 days of annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays)
  • Birthday day off
  • Employee discount
