Job Description:
Overview
Stirling Dynamics is recruiting Modelling and Simulation Engineers to the Simulation, Dynamics and Control team.
Due to upcoming projects and continued growth, Stirling Dynamics are looking for multiple talented Modelling and Simulation Engineers to join our expanding team. We are looking for both permanent employees at all levels of experience, and contractors.
The successful engineers will work within a team responsible for the development of complex control algorithms and vehicle and system plant models for next generation marine applications. The role covers all aspects of model based design, from controller design and tuning, model build and test. As a Simulation and Control engineer you will work on the development of leading edge algorithms and processes, and with the latest tool-setsto support the delivery and integration of the models as part of a wider integrated model set.
Modelling, simulation and control has always been at the core of Stirling Dynamics\’ capabilities, and we have been at the fore front of developingmodelling techniques and model based design activitiesfor over 30 years. Within this role you will have the opportunity to learn from and share with other like minded engineers within Marine and across our Aerospace, eVTOL and cockpit control business areas.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of model based processes, Matlab/Simulink and ideally control theory. They will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work and collaborate within a team of engineers.
This role will be predominantly based in our Bristol office with occasional travel to our clients’ sites as required. As part of our commitment to flexibility, our staff can choose to work from the Expleo offices in Preston or Derby if preferred. We will also accept hybrid working.
Responsibilities
The role will suit an engineer looking to diversify or develop their experience and work within a team responsible for producing models at vehicle and system level representing plant and control algorithms. The Mathworks toolset is used heavily including Simulink and associated toolboxes, and a good understanding of the use of version control software (e.g. GIT) and task management toolsets as part of collaborative working.
Candidates will have the following responsibilities (depending on experience):
- Together with the technical lead, developing task definition
- Defining model and control algorithm requirements
- Build and test of models
- Peer review of models
- Preparation and presentation of results, models etc to customers
- Formal verification procedures
Qualifications
- Candidates will ideally be degree qualified (or equivalent) in a related discipline (preferably Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Mathematics, Physics, or similar).
Skills
- Matlab/Simulink
- Control theory
- Version control tools
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
- Confidentiality
- Ability to deal with multiple conflicting requests
- Professional attitude
- Self-motivated to see tasks through to successful completion
Desired Skills
- Application within the Marine sector
- Advanced control theory, such as Kalman filters, and state estimation
- C/C++
Experience
- All levels considered from +2 years industrial experience.
- Some industrial experience is expected, with the role intended to support marine projects, but if you have the skills and experience to match from other industries, then we would love to hear from you.
The role would be grade 3 – 6, which is equivalent to £30,000 – £54,000 dependent on experience.
We offer a range of benefits to our employees to recognise their efforts. Playing hard is equally as important as working hard, so regular events are held throughout the year which provide an ideal opportunity to mix socially.
