Stirling Dynamics is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Mechanical Design team as a permanent employee. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be supporting the design and development of innovative technical solutions for applications within the aerospace, flight simulator & Urban Air Mobility sectors. They will be required to work closely with teams across the business within a multidisciplinary project team to ensure the delivery of projects to the agreed technical requirements, timescales and budget. They will be involved in all aspects of the product design life cycle, from initial concept generation to the detailed design, implementation, product improvement and in-service product support. This role will be predominantly based in the Stirling Dynamics Bristol office with occasional travel to our clients’ sites as required.

Responsibilities

  • Providing conceptual and detail designs to satisfy project requirements
  • Preparing design support documentation and maintaining concise engineering records
  • Producing drawing packs in line with configuration management processes
  • Conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices/designs and future trends
  • Supporting NPI/development projects in the introduction of new designs
  • Reduce variability in manufacturing by providing standard work methods and work instructions
  • Generating production documentation such as assembly instructions
  • Conducting engineering investigations for existing product improvements
  • Conducting engineering change management activities on existing designs
  • Designing fixtures and tooling for assembly tasks
  • Ensuring adherence to best practice technical standards, including those issued via the Company’s Quality Management System, classifications and statutory bodies

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical or Design Engineering (or equivalent)

Essential skills

  • Knowledge of BS8888 & GD&T
  • Experience with part and assembly design using CAD software
  • Proficient with mechanical part manufacturing methods
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Positive "Can Do" attitude
  • Good verbal/communication skills

Desired skills

  • Proven technical leadership in a similar role
  • Configuration management using a PDM software
  • Design for manufacture experience
  • Proficient with Catia V5 or 3DExperience
  • Experience with SolidWorks & PDM
  • Pro ASME Y14.5 Electromechanical Systems

  • Relevant experience within a product design team, preferably within aerospace.
