Stirling Dynamics is recruiting a CFD Engineer – Contract Position to join the team. Stirling Dynamics is seeking to recruit an experienced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Engineer – Contractor Position to support a range of current and upcoming programmes of work. The Contractor will work within a small team to deliver a variety of CFD modelling activities and analyses. The role will best suit an individual with significant industry experience within the aerospace domain.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with internal and external customers on a technical and programme level.
  • Develop suitable new methodologies and conduct CFD analyses at a consistently high standard.
  • Quickly acclimatise to current projects/programmes and progress ongoing tasks with existing methodologies.
  • Preparation, presentation of technical reports and proposals.
  • Support the preparation of project management planning documentation including quality and technical plans.
  • Maintain the project documentation in accordance with the company’s Quality Management System.
  • Manage multiple tasks and deliver within agreed timescales.
  • Interact with other engineers and customers on a technical and project level.

Qualifications

  • Candidates will ideally be degree qualified (or equivalent), in a related discipline.

Essential skills

  • Experienced in aircraft OML design activities (within industry).
  • Highly proficient in CFD modelling with ANSYS toolsets including SPACECLAIM, DISCOVERY and FLUENT.
  • Steady and unsteady external aerodynamic flows of civil and/or military aircraft.
  • Extensive hands-on experience working in low-speed, subsonic, and transonic regimes, including performance optimisation.
  • Self-motivated, professional candidate with the ability to proactively problem-solve independently.
  • An ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Working efficiently and accurately, with attention to detail and the discipline to self-check results.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including a professional approach when dealing with internal and external customers.
  • The confidence and desire to gain a full understanding of issues.
  • Good organisational skills, including record keeping.
  • Able to act in a customer facing position.

Desired skills

  • Familiarity with requirements, generation and use of aerodynamic CFD data for certification purposes.
  • Experience in analysis of aircraft performance, stability and control, flight dynamics would be beneficial.
  • Programming language experience in use of HPC and automation of ANSYS CFD tasks is desirable.
