Sticky Fingers is looking for a caring, enthusiastic and reliable Play Worker to join our friendly team. The successful candidate will support children aged 4–11 years within our after-school and holiday provision, delivering engaging play opportunities in a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about child-led play, enjoys working as part of a team, and understands the importance of play in children’s development.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of high-quality, inclusive play opportunities that meet the needs and interests of all children
- Actively engage with children during indoor and outdoor play
- Build positive, respectful relationships with children, parents, and colleagues
- Ensure children’s safety and wellbeing at all times in line with policies and procedures
- Assist with setting up and clearing away activities and play spaces
- Follow safeguarding, health & safety, and behaviour management procedures
- Support children with additional needs, adapting activities where necessary
- Promote positive behaviour and encourage independence and confidence
- Work collaboratively as part of a team to create a fun and welcoming environment
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with children aged 4–11 (paid or voluntary)
- A genuine passion for play and child development
- Ability to actively engage with children rather than supervising from a distance
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
- Willingness to undertake relevant training
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable (but not essential)
- Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Childcare, Playwork or related field
- Experience within after-school clubs or holiday playschemes
- Knowledge of the EYFS or Playwork Principles
- First Aid training
