Sushi Chef - Birmingham, West Midlands

Birmingham.

A City that has always known how to make things: with its hands, with care, with an unmistakable sense of identity.

A City that doesn't follow, that does things its own way.

This Autumn, Sticks'n'Sushi is coming to Birmingham - our first restaurant in the Midlands, opening in the Paradise development on Chamberlain Square.

Sticks'n'Sushi is as unique as the city we're coming to.

We serve high-quality, fresh food based on a unique combination of classic and creative sushi along with sticks from the grill, created by our 'Strange Fish'.

Fish are like us: we all swim together.

But Strange Fish are bold, curious individuals who fit right in here.

Those who are comfortable just being themselves, a little different perhaps.

We are looking for a Sushi Chef to join our kitchen team.

Someone who is a true craftsperson, passionate about creating things in the best way, to the very best they can be.

You'll have busy kitchen experience, but a calm spirit.

About you

  • Someone who uses their hands, mind and heart together. You stay precise, even when it's busy
  • Upbeat and enjoyable to work with
  • Able to handle change well and always keep your standards high
  • Someone who works happily with others, bringing a big smile and a humble attitude
  • What you'll be doing at Sticks 'n' Sushi
  • You'll make different types of outstanding sushi; maki, sashimi, nigiri and more
  • You'll use your skills and care to serve excellent food for every guest
  • Your food will bring joy to guests, encouraging them to return and become friends
  • You'll be part of a team that wants you to grow and succeed
  • What you'll bring to us
  • You've worked in a busy kitchen before and are skilled with knives and making sushi
  • You speak English confidently
  • You enjoy learning more about sushi, respecting its traditions while bringing your own creativity
  • You're a team player who's kind and respectful
  • You think as part of a team, not just as an individual
  • You want to have fun and work well with your teammates - togetherness matters
  • How we will support your journey with us

We want you to grow with us, so you can keep learning and developing your skills, challenging your responsibilities.

Our training is structured to both help you shine and create memories, in your role and beyond.

The benefits that go beyond the day to day

We work hard while having fun and learning together. At Sticks 'n' Sushi, everyone helps build a meaningful workplace where all are welcome and represented. You'll enjoy:

  • Delicious, fresh team meals every shift
  • 50% off at all restaurants, including drinks
  • Referral bonus schemes
  • Employee assistance and wellbeing support via Hospitality Action
  • Financial wellbeing resources including early access to your pay through Wagestream
  • Discounts on High Street retailers and restaurants
  • Team events, parties and awards
