Calling exceptional Head Chefs! Birmingham. A City that has always known how to make things: with its hands, with care, with an unmistakable sense of identity. This Autumn, Sticks'n'Sushi is coming to Birmingham - our first restaurant in the Midlands, opening in the Paradise development on Chamberlain Square. Sticks’n’Sushi is as unique as the city we're coming to. We serve high-quality, fresh food based on a unique combination of classic and creative sushi along with sticks from the grill, bringing a blend of Danish design, Japanese dining and generous hospitality.

We’re looking for you: a true craftsperson, passionate about creating things in the best way, to the very best they can be. You’ll have Head Chef experience in a busy kitchen with a strong knowledge of crafting exceptional sushi, with a calm spirit that tunes in and focuses, rising above that buzz. If that sounds like your ideal next role then this is the place for you, where you can bring your leadership, creativity and flair!

Are you:

  • Someone who works with hands, head and heart in harmony?
  • A precision-focused individual, even under fast-paced pressure?
  • Positive and fun to be around, in the heat (or cool) of the busy kitchen?
  • Able to adapt and move with change, without letting standards drop?
  • The type who stands shoulder to shoulder with their fellow Chefs, with a big smile and a small ego?
  • Culturally curious and hungry to learn more about our Danish ’n’ Japanese roots?

What you’ll be doing at Sticks ’n’ Sushi:

  • Taking responsibility for all aspects of the operation in the kitchen from prep and food quality through to cleanliness, compliance and, of course, cost control.
  • Ensuring we create top-class sushi and the very best kushiyaki sticks.
  • Putting your passion and pride into ensuring a delicious plate and experience for every guest, every time.
  • Being part of a family that will help you flourish and become the best you can be.
  • Nurturing, coaching and developing other members of the kitchen team.

What you’ll bring to us:

  • Head Chef experience in a busy kitchen.
  • Excellent knife and sushi-making skills.
  • Fluency in English, the language of our kitchen.
  • An eye for detail; always upholding the highest standards and ensuring every shift is in the very safest pair of hands.
  • A love of deepening your craft, with a respect for rituals and traditions but a curiosity to bring your own spark and ideas.
  • Team spirit, kindness & respect. We only swear at ourselves here, no-one else.
  • Thinking “we” rather than “I”.
  • A desire to have fun as you work with your fellow chefs; togetherness is the word.
  • A genuine commitment to making people happy, ensuring you have one of the happiest teams in the industry.

How we will support your journey with us:

We want you to grow with us, so through our Lead ‘n’ Learn academy, you can keep learning and developing your skills and challenge your responsibilities (and your healthy risk-taking!). Our training is structured to both help you shine and create memories, in your role and beyond.

The benefits that go beyond the day to day:

  • Yes, we work hard. But we also laugh, learn and enjoy the ride.
  • Delicious team food every shift.
  • 50% discount across all our restaurants, everywhere (yes, that includes drinks).
  • Generous referral bonus schemes.
  • Employee assistance and wellbeing support through Hospitality Action.
  • Financial wellbeing support including early access to your salary with Wagestream.
  • Employee discounts across high street retailers and restaurants.
  • Team events, unforgettable parties & awards.

We welcome everyone.
