We’re looking for an AI Engineering Manager to lead the next phase of our AI journey—designing and scaling enterprise-grade, agentic AI platforms that deliver real business impact. This is a hands-on leadership role (player-coach) where you’ll combine deep technical expertise with team leadership. You’ll build and lead a high-performing team while shaping modern AI systems across Azure, multi-agent architectures, and LLM-powered applications. If you’re excited about moving from experimental AI to production-grade, scalable systems, this is a unique opportunity to drive that transformation.

About us: SThree is the global STEM workforce consultancy, fusing ambition, expertise and technology. We advise businesses, build expert teams and deliver project solutions, to outpace tomorrow, together. We’ve been in STEM for more than 39 years– a global team with local expertise across specialist sectors in Engineering, Life Sciences and Technology. We aspire to be the game-changers in STEM. We are all in, we build partnerships, we think big, and we do the right thing. We bring skilled people together, whatever the speed, scale and scope of the ambitions, to build the future.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Build & Scale AI Platforms: Design and deliver cloud-native AI systems on Azure; Lead end-to-end development of LLM applications, RAG pipelines, and agentic systems; Drive best practices in scalability, resilience, and cost optimisation.
  • Lead Agentic AI Innovation: Develop multi-agent systems and orchestration frameworks; Implement context management, memory strategies, and real-time AI workflows; Explore cutting-edge capabilities including voice AI and autonomous decisioning.
  • Champion Responsible AI: Embed security, governance, and ethical AI principles; Implement guardrails for safe model usage, bias mitigation, and data protection; Ensure auditability and explainability across AI systems; Champion Kubernetes, microservices, and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/Bicep); Build robust CI/CD pipelines and production-ready AI services.
  • Lead & Develop Talent: Build and lead a team of 4–8 AI engineers; Mentor, coach, and foster a culture of engineering excellence; Act as a technical leader and escalation point.
  • Influence Strategy: Translate business challenges into AI-driven solutions; Partner with product and leadership teams on high-impact initiatives; Shape the AI roadmap and platform strategy.

What we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years in senior engineering roles, with experience leading technical teams.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure AI (Azure OpenAI, AI Foundry, Cognitive Services).
  • Experience with LLMs, RAG, prompt engineering, and orchestration frameworks.
  • Solid coding and engineering background (Python, APIs, IaC).

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience with multi-agent / autonomous systems.
  • Knowledge of real-time or streaming AI use cases.
  • Exposure to AI safety frameworks (OWASP GenAI, NIST, ISO).

What's in it for you:

  • Hybrid working options for flexibility.
  • Bonus linked to company and personal performance.
  • 28 days holiday plus public holidays, with an annual leave purchase scheme.
  • Private healthcare, discounted dental insurance, and health cashback scheme.
  • Paid volunteering days and caregiver leave.
  • Access to retail discounts and our company share scheme.
  • Build cutting-edge AI systems at scale, not just proof-of-concepts.
  • Play a key role in shaping a modern AI platform strategy.
  • Work with leading Azure AI technologies and frameworks.
  • Lead and grow a high-impact engineering team.
  • Be at the forefront of agentic AI and enterprise transformation.

What we stand for: We’re committed to ensuring that every colleague, candidate, and member of our community experiences fair, equitable, and respectful treatment. We strive to create an environment where everyone belongs, feels valued, and is supported to thrive. If you require any assistance or reasonable adjustments during the application process, please let us know. We’re here to help.

How to prepare for a job interview at SThree

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If SThree uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
