Graduate Cloud Developer – STFC
Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is hiring for the Graduate Cloud Developer role. This is a permanent, full-time position.
Location: Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Harwell, Oxfordshire OX11 0QX

About the Role
Are you looking for computing beyond the desktop and seeking to explore and develop computing in the cloud? Groundbreaking computational infrastructure is vital to provide the necessary support to our customers and partners. You will join a small team of highly qualified engineers and system developers, focusing on the development of a cloud-based platform for microelectronics design including secure data management, complex databases, sophisticated user interfaces and close-coupled data visualisation systems. Our systems are continually developed on premise and in commercial clouds to offer additional functionality and improve operational efficiency.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Architect and develop sophisticated solutions for Microelectronics design in AWS and Azure clouds that are robust and intuitive for end customers to use.
- Customize and configure virtual private clouds, elastic IPs, and mass deployment of multiple machine instances.
- Work closely with CAD software support engineers to identify and address system requirements for successful solution implementation.
- Implement solutions that are robust and secure to protect sensitive technology data.
- Use agile decision making to continuously develop and upgrade functionality.
- Maintain, refine and develop cloud-based solutions to meet current and emerging needs of customers and support future highly sensitive microelectronics technologies.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Achieved, or on course to achieve, a minimum 2:1 degree in a relevant field
- Right to live and work in the UK at time of starting employment
- Excellent proven programming ability in procedural languages and scripting languages
- Some experience of virtualization and an understanding of virtualization technologies
- Experience with AWS, Azure or other commercial clouds
- Logical approach to software debugging and interest in system architectures and cloud-based solutions
- Good knowledge of Linux
- Conscientious, reliable with good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate technical information in English
