Stewarts is a family-owned business established in 1742 with a history that can be tracked back eight generations.
We have three Garden Centres, a Nursery and a Landscaping division, all based in Dorset and Hampshire; our Garden centres are in Christchurch, Broomhill and Titchfield. We also have a central warehouse and Head Office based in Christchurch.
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Manager to oversee the daily operations of our Christchurch Garden Centre. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in horticulture, exceptional leadership skills and a commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
As Garden Centre Manager you will report to the Retail and Marketing Director and play a crucial role, managing staff and ensuring the overall success of the garden centre.
Responsibilities
- Manage the smooth running of the Garden Centre.
- Support department Managers and Supervisors with the recruitment and training of new staff.
- Manage the performance and deployment of staff within the centre.
- Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers and responding to queries and complaints.
- Manage budgets, monitor sales and expenses, and implement strategies to increase sales across the centre.
- Organise and manage stocktakes, stock turn, markdowns and wastage within the centre.
- Execute marketing strategies to promote the garden centre including events and seasonal displays.
- Ensure the garden centre is clean, safe and attractive to customers.
- Manage all maintenance and repairs on site.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety procedures.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in a garden centre or retail setting.
- Strong knowledge of plants.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
- Able to work an average of 40 hours per week including alternate weekends.
