Stewart Johnson Partners is recruiting for a Workshop Assistant to join an established specialist engineering business based in Kempston. Our client designs, manufactures and delivers engineering solutions for the water and wastewater sector across the UK and Ireland. This is a growing business with a strong focus on quality, safety and career development.
This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the day-to-day running of the workshop and yard. You will work alongside Fabricators, Fitters and Workshop Team Leaders, helping to prepare materials, organise equipment and maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting Fabricators and Fitters with the preparation of workshop jobs.
- Supporting the building, cleaning and movement of products and materials.
- Accepting deliveries and ensuring items are stored in the correct locations.
- Organising materials in line with individual projects.
- Maintaining a clean, safe and well-organised workshop and yard.
- Carrying out daily equipment checks, including checks on the overhead crane, forklift and MEWP.
- Ensuring lifting equipment is available for scheduled LOLER inspections.
- Ensuring power tools are available for scheduled PAT testing.
- Dismantling and disposing of pallets, crates and other wooden items.
- Monitoring yard activity and supporting safe working practices.
- Ensuring PPE is stored and maintained correctly.
- Providing updates on workshop storage, yard space and operational priorities.
- Communicating effectively with colleagues, suppliers and other stakeholders.
