Role Overview

Responsible for leading Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the site, driving a positive safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering continuous performance improvements to achieve long-term reductions in incidents and enhanced environmental performance.

Responsibilities

  • Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Leadership: Advise site management team on HSE compliance requirements. Provide leadership and subject matter expertise that ensures appropriate HSE systems are in place. Plan and direct HSE activities and programs; establish priorities for project execution based upon site resources and cost of implementation. Maintain a safe, secure, and compliant environment by operating within company systems, policies and procedures. Demonstrate company vision and values.
  • Compliance, Governance & Management Systems: Develop and oversee control systems to ensure compliance with legal guidelines and internal policies across the site. Enforce regulations in all aspects and levels of business and provide guidance on compliance matters. Coordinate external registration and surveillance audit schedules with selected certifying body.
  • Risk Management & Safe Systems of Work: Coordinate the generation and routine maintenance/review of risk assessments and safe systems of work processes. Continuously assess HSE hazards and risks and provide technical expertise to ensure compliance with local regulations, company policies, procedures and programmes.
  • Incident Management & Correction Actions: Coordinate accident investigation processes, recording and reporting industrial injuries as required. Actively participate in the investigation of significant HSE incidents and ensure timely and complete implementation of corrective actions. Maintain and lead improvements of Corrective Action Reporting (CAR). Support the embedding of root cause analysis and problem-solving methodologies, undertaking fault-finding investigations in the event of product and process failures.
  • Auditing, Monitoring & Reporting: Ensure the timely and accurate reporting of HSE performance data and incidents. Designate and carry out routine site Health, Safety and Environmental audits to comply with site requirements. Manage and track site Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and drive site improvement toward goals. Ensure site-specific safety and environmental targets are achieved and continuously improved.
  • Training, Coaching & Culture: Develop and deliver specific site-focused HSE training. Develop and deliver new starter HSE inductions. Support problem resolution and provide leadership and guidance. Promote continuous improvement & a positive safety culture throughout the organisation.
  • Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence: Design, execute and maintain a management plan with appropriate metrics to drive performance improvement across all teams. Work in conjunction with Operations on improvement projects across the site. Work with Operations on business-critical KPIs relating to Safety, Quality and OEE. Develop relationships with key customers and suppliers regarding areas of improvement.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong attention to detail and accurate reporting.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • A proactive, flexible, and positive approach to work, with strong time-management skills and the ability to perform under pressure.
  • NEBOSH Certification and detailed knowledge of UK Health and Safety regulations.
  • Safety leadership experience including assuring compliance to statutory requirements and liaison with governing bodies.
  • Experience of dealing with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Significant HSE management experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, ideally in multi-site or multi-product stream environment.
