Stevens Treatment Programs empowers youth to lead successful lives through high quality treatment and education in a safe and nurturing environment. Stevens provides comprehensive services to adolescent youth who require the safety and consistency of our residential treatment program. Stevens’ private, residential special education school serves youth between the ages of 11 and 22 with a history of complex trauma and behavioral problems.

The Teacher Assistant supports each youth's social development, emotional wellbeing, and intellectual growth within the classroom. The Teacher Assistant plays an essential role in the school, helping students grow, learn, and develop into productive members of the community by providing academic support, behavioral support, and life skills. The Teacher Assistant builds positive relationships with students, teachers, and all members of the interdisciplinary team.

Other duties include:

  • Provide classroom supervision
  • Assist youth with their morning activities of daily living (ADL) skills
  • Administer medications to youth and maintain proper medical documentation
  • Assist teachers in implementing lessons for assigned academic and skills classes
  • Teach a career education class twice per week
  • Teach a bullying prevention summer unit
  • Complete Youth Readiness Assessment Tools as needed
  • Assist students with assignments or difficult concepts in a one-on-one setting, or in small groups
  • Help students stay focused during class hours
  • Supervise special events and school outings
  • Proactively address youths’ emotional needs in order to prevent behavioral escalation, and assist with de-escalation as needed
  • Engage in youth restraints safely and effectively when necessary

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED (Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required).
  • Current Valid Driver's License for at least 3 years and a Driving Record acceptable to Stevens’ insurer
  • Acceptable EEC Background Record check
  • References from immediate supervisors
  • The ability to communicate clearly, logically, concisely, and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Able to come to work promptly and consistently
  • Good organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner with all members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to remain calm during stressful situations
  • Ability to exercise good judgment on a day-to-day basis and in crisis situations
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with youth and adults
  • Flexibility to adjust assigned work schedules as required by programmatic needs

Schedule: Monday-Friday 40-hour work week. Wednesdays: 7:00am – 4:00pm Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday: 7:00am – 3:00pm (Choose Monday or Friday to leave at 2PM to offset Wednesday schedule)

Pay Rate: Starting pay for this role ranges from $19.50 to $21.50 / hour, based on relevant experience, education, and schedule. An additional $1.00/hour with a demonstrated bilingual fluency in Spanish. Potential merit increase up to $1.00 per hour for medication administration. Holiday pay available. $500.00 sign on bonus!
