Stevenage Borough Council is seeking an experienced and motivated officer to take up an exciting internal secondment opportunity supporting the delivery of the Council’s Armed Forces Covenant commitments and the development of the Valour Fund Programme.

About The Role

This role will provide dedicated programme and project management capacity to lead the co‑ordination and delivery of Armed Forces Covenant activity across the Council and to support the development, submission, and early implementation of the Valour Hub programme. Acting as the central co‑ordination point, the postholder will work closely with colleagues across Community Development, Housing, Customer Services, Policy and Communications, as well as with statutory and voluntary sector partners, to ensure activity is aligned, monitored, and reported through agreed governance arrangements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Servicing and supporting the Armed Forces Covenant Officers Group and Forum.
  • Coordinating partner delivery.
  • Managing project plans, risks and performance.
  • Preparing reports and briefings for senior officers and Members.

Subject to the success of the Valour bid, the role will also support the start‑up delivery of the Stevenage Valour Hub model.

About You

This opportunity would suit someone with project management experience, excellent organisational and communication skills, and the ability to work confidently across teams and with external partners. You will have experience of community development and supporting communities, co‑ordinating projects or programmes, managing competing priorities, maintaining clear documentation, and producing high quality reports. You will be comfortable working with a degree of autonomy, proactively identifying risks and solutions, and contributing to the successful delivery of complex, partnership based activity within a public sector environment.
