SBC is seeking a qualified Finance Manager to join our team on a part-time basis (three days per week). SBC is a not-for-profit life science campus in Stevenage, providing laboratory and office accommodation for around 50 life science companies engaged in research into next generation treatments for serious human diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative brain disorders. Reporting to the Finance Director, this is a highly impactful role with responsibility for the day-to-day running of the finance function and management of a small team. The successful candidate will support senior management with accurate reporting, forecasting and insight, while ensuring strong governance and compliance.

The role will involve:

  • Supporting and mentoring the Finance Assistant
  • Overseeing transactional accounting activities: - eg Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll support
  • Producing monthly management accounts and variance analysis
  • Managing budgeting, forecasting, cashflow and investments
  • Producing statutory accounts and managing the year-end audit process
  • Monitoring financial oversight of capital projects
  • Improving and implementing financial processes and controls

What we are looking for:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA) with a strong background in operational finance
  • Proven background in managing a month-end process
  • Ability to communicate financial insights to non-finance audiences
  • Excellent Excel and Microsoft Office skills
  • Prior experience of Xero is desirable
  • Ability to work onsite three days per week
