The Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial team in managing the financial and contractual aspects of construction projects from procurement through to final account. The role is designed to develop a strong understanding of cost control, subcontractor management, valuations and project profitability while working closely with site teams, suppliers and clients. This is a development role suited to someone early in their QS career who wants structured exposure to real commercial responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial & Cost Management
  • Assist with preparation of project budgets and cost plans
  • Monitor project costs and maintain cost value reconciliation (CVR)
  • Track variations, delays and additional works
  • Support the preparation of monthly cost reports
  • Assist in financial forecasting and profit tracking
  • Review labour, plant and material costs against budget
  • Subcontractor Procurement
    • Issue enquiries and obtain quotations from subcontractors and suppliers
    • Analyse and compare tender returns
    • Assist in preparing subcontractor comparisons and recommendations
    • Draft and issue subcontract orders
    • Maintain approved supplier database
  • Valuations & Payments
    • Assist in preparation of interim valuations and applications for payment
    • Measure works completed on site
    • Assess subcontractor payment applications
    • Prepare payment notices and certificates
    • Assist with final accounts and retention release
  • Contract Administration
    • Support management of contracts (typically JCT/NEC)
    • Maintain project documentation and change records
    • Track and log variations
    • Assist with contractual notices and communication

    Skills & Experience

    • Essential:
    • Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar (or working towards)
