Design Engineer

Sterling Recruitment Services are looking to recruit a Design Engineer on a permanent basis for our client based in Leeds.\\n\\nRole Summary\\n\\nThe role will require you to develop designs for tunnels and shafts construction in the UK and internationally. You will have a fundamental understanding of Geotechnical properties for underground construction as well structural design capability. All tunnel design requires an assessment of the impact of tunnelling activity on other third-party assets and thus require third party approvals.

Good report writing skills is expected with a sound understanding of the design processes to report and present designs to statutory authorities such as National Highways or Network Rail and the like.\\n\\nYou will be capable of assessing the ground structure interaction analysis techniques for tunnel design, and for a wide range different form of tunnelling, and trenchless utility installation methods such as Microtunnelling, HDD, Augerbore, Pipe ramming or Headings.\\n\\nFor those who have the will and determination to work hard and seek to learn, we will support your professional development to progress you to a chartered engineer.\\n\\nTypical application\\nshaft design, including buoyant stability, jacking collars, reinforced concrete bases, tremie plugs, cover slabs opening support structures\\nTunnel designs for Timber Headings, Microtunnelling/Pipejacking,\\nHDD design.\\nThrust walls, head walls, launch frames, pipeline proof loads\\nExcavation Stability and support, with a thorough understanding of geotechnical principals for shoring techniques and design of sheet piles & frames, PC modular units, king post etc.\\nEarth work stability slope stability analysis, soil nailing\\nCrane platforms.\\nTunnelling impact assessments\\n\\nPrerequisite Requirements:\\n- Bachelor or Master level in a Civil / Geotechnical or Geology based engineering\\n- 3-5 years work experience in a similar role\\n\\nDuties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:\\nProduce Geotechnical and structural Design\\nReport writing\\nProgress reports\\nAll manner of assistance for the Senior management team\\nWork as part of team\\nMentor junior members of the team\\n\\nHours: 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday\\nSalary: Competitive (DOE)\\nBenefits: Discretionary bonus, life Assurance (x4 salary), generous pension, best practice awards / vouchers, employee assistance programme, an array of perks via Perkbox, 31 days annual leave (inc bank holidays)
