Summary of the Shift E&I Technician Role

We are looking for an Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Technician to join our Shift team in Cramlington, on an attractive 4 on 6 off shift pattern. Within this role, you will be responsible for executing on‑site maintenance tasks, including E&I repairs, modifications, plant upgrades, installations and commissioning, ensuring all equipment complies with statutory and regulatory requirements.

This role operates on a 12‑hour shift pattern, consisting of 2 days, 2 nights and 6 off.

Your Responsibilities

• Adhere to the Sterling lockout/tagout (LOTO) and permit‑to‑work procedures
• Carry out electrical and instrument repairs, modifications, plant upgrades, installation, and commissioning
• Calibrate and function test instrumented loops including valves, level, temperature, flow & pressure instruments
• Conduct hazardous area inspections and repairs, ensuring all hazardous area equipment complies with statutory requirements and the appropriate British Standards are maintained
• Problem‑solve and perform diagnostic checks on electrical and instrument systems, recommending changes and improvements to the area E&I assistant engineer
• Read and interpret instrument loop and schematic drawings
• Perform medium and low voltage installations and general electrical systems

Requirements for the Role

• Relevant qualifications in one of the core disciplines are essential
• Having a COMPex certificate is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided
• Previous experience within the chemical industry is desirable, but not essential
• Capable of prioritising tasks and managing time effectively
• Self‑motivated with a can‑do attitude
• Must be adept at problem‑solving in a methodical manner and have good fault‑finding skills
• Should be able to respond appropriately to situations with the necessary level of urgency
• General understanding of 4‑20 mA & 3‑15 PSI instrument control
• Preferred prior experience in identifying and eliminating root causes
