About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Handyperson to join our Facilities team, supporting the maintenance and upkeep of our buildings and grounds across multiple sites. This hands-on role involves carrying out a range of repair, maintenance, and improvement tasks, including basic carpentry, plumbing, decorating, and general handyman duties, to ensure our facilities remain safe, functional, and well-presented. You will work independently, manage your workload effectively, maintain high standards of workmanship, and deliver a responsive service while following health and safety procedures. Strong problem-solving skills, good communication, and a positive attitude are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general maintenance and repair work, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, decorating, and basic electrical tasks.
- Conduct routine inspections and promptly address maintenance issues to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and well-presented.
- Repair or replace building fixtures, fittings, doors, locks, windows, and other fabric elements as required.
- Perform minor plumbing repairs, including fixing leaks, unblocking drains, and replacing taps and fittings.
- Support the Facilities Manager, Facilities Technician, and contractors with planned and reactive maintenance activities.
- Maintain the internal and external fabric of buildings, including gutter cleaning, power washing, and general upkeep.
- Respond efficiently to maintenance requests and emergency repairs, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Maintain safe working practices, keep accurate maintenance records, and ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are kept in good condition.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in a handyperson, maintenance, facilities, or similar role.
- Practical skills across a range of maintenance disciplines, including basic carpentry, plumbing, decorating, and repairs.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and flexible approach to work.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and manage time effectively.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contractors.
- Relevant trade qualifications, health and safety training, and a full driving licence (to travel between Sterling Home sites) are desirable.
