About Us:
At Steris AST we are the trusted experts in neutral sterilization offering includes radiation and gas technologies. We offer electron beam, gamma, X-ray, ethylene oxide and vaporized hydrogen peroxide technologies for the purpose of product sterilization. Whether that product be a single use medical instrument, a hospital environment, cosmetics and toiletries, or food products, we make sure that everything that makes its way to an end user is safe for use or consumption.
What is involved
- Maintenance
Conduct routine maintenance work, following GMP documentation standards. Respond to plant breakdown, completing all relevant records and documentation to required standards – both outside and during normal business hours, as and when these may occur. Facilitate management of programmable logic control (PLC) and SCADA systems, in alignment with external support service provider and local maintenance management. Carry out PPM as per the schedule and ensure reactive maintenance tickets are closed out timeously, with accurate data captured. Support plant breakdowns both outside, and during, normal business hours. Participating in on call where needed. Actively participate in the review and development of the planned maintenance schedule and TPM. Review, trend and present plant failure modes, highlighting required investment areas. Continuous review and maintenance of stock levels of critical spares. Oversee and carry out installation and maintenance of general plant machinery and equipment in and around the factory premises, including fork lift trucks, compressors and ancillary equipment. Maintain plant ancillary item stocks in line with local service level agreements. Update site related risk assessments for maintenance tasks and conduct annual reviews. Fully utilise the CMMS systems, ensuring accurate data input, used to coordinate planned activities and fully log all maintenance issues and works updates.

- Facilities
Co-ordinate the contractor management program on site, ensuring permits to work, method statements and risk assessments are completed, presented and managed during the planning and duration of engineering projects. Conduct internal auditing of systems and processes in line with planned preventative maintenance programme. Develop and maintain processes and procedures for both maintenance and facilities, improving the training documentation and visual management systems related to engineering, in alignment with management. Ensure that reactive tasks throughout the building are completed and be proactive in highlighting areas where improvements can be made.
- Quality
Conduct calibration activities, as directed. Operate to GMP documentation standards. Assist with defect investigations as and when required. Attend and contribute to annual maintenance review meeting. Leads annual maintenance review meeting.
- Safety and Security
Ensure that everybody on site follows safe practices, in accordance with Company policy at all times. Immediately report any near misses, accidents or incidents to management in the prescribed format. Ensure that all external contractors follow site safety rules (RAMS and Permits to work) as appropriate. Assist with handling of radiation sources, under direct supervision of the Lead Engineer and/or Isotope engineering team (site specific). Trained to Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) level. Act as a classified worker (Environmental safety agency). Perform weekly fire alarm tests and quarterly drills. Ensure the facility is continuously secure and a safe environment for employees to work from.
- Continuous improvement
Improve and maintain workshop and plantroom 5s standards, focusing on health and safety enhancements and visual Management. Support KAIZEN and 5S events. Bring forward ideas in which efficiencies and improvements can be made to enhance the plant or facility. Perform regular Gemba walks alongside site management to identify areas of opportunity and always having eyes on the area of incident to make well informed decision making.
- Projects
Actively engage in the site sustainability program. Actively participate in engineering enhancement projects, as directed.

Carry out any other reasonable tasks as directed by the management team.
Required Experience
- Vocational/Technical
High School Diploma, GED, HNC, HND. You will have first class communication skills, be a team player and have the ability to prioritise your daily activities and solve problems quickly and accurately. Knowledge and/or experience of continuous improvement programs and the medical industry would be a distinct advantage. Knowledge of the below duties:

Welding and fabrication experience. Knowledge of 5s and lean initiatives. Knowledge of drives and conveyors. Hydraulics and pneumatics. Basic electrical drawings and design. Basic mechanical drawing and design.
