As a key member of our Transport Management Team, you will be responsible for managing all transport operational activities from our Larkfield site, which covers London and the Southeast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You will be responsible for facilitating the effective utilisation of the fleet of vehicles and ensure service delivery meets and exceeds our customers’ expectations. We operate in a highly regulated industry meaning our transport compliance will be at the forefront of the role. To enable this, you will be supported by a team of six supervisors, who in turn are responsible for circa. 80 drivers and 5 administrators, utilising a fleet of 50+ vehicles.
We are looking for an experienced Transport Manager who has previously managed a large and busy site or multiple sites.
Responsibilities will include:
- Operational Planning: To work closely with the operations team to plan work demand to meet customer specification, whilst maximising efficiencies, operational resource and ensuring quality of service is maintained. Work with defined metrics and utilise this data to provide valuable insight into potential service improvements and efficiencies. Identify and solve operational problems whilst understanding and recognising any broader impact across the operation. Review transport routes regularly to ensure efficient/effective use of vehicles and drivers. Deputise for Area Transport Manager as required and be flexible to travel and attend/cover at other locations across the UK. Complete payroll, overtime, absence management and working time directive. To work in collaboration with the company Fleet department and service providers and ensure all vehicle related processes are completed for your site/area.
- People Management: To manage all people related activity for the site or area including employee relations, recruitment, performance, team development and engagement. Drive high performance through effective check in meetings, performance reviews and development planning. To ensure all team members are trained to high standards and have the relevant knowledge to deliver a great service to our customers.
- Customer Service: To deliver excellent customer service through the consistent management of our service offering including installs, repairs, and removals. To collaborate closely with our Customer Service team to help address any customer queries or issues and ensure any operational actions are completed within the agreed SLA. To collaborate closely with our commercial representatives to understand customer requirements and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention are maintained.
- Health & Safety: Champion Health & Safety and promote best practice and ensure all tasks and processes are completed on the relevant H&S platform or system. Attend regular H&S meetings and regularly monitor/report site and area activity. To ensure the site or service is compliant with waste management processes, documentation and any relevant legislation. To ensure all team members are managing hazardous waste safely and other high-risk activity completed within Operations. To ensure all site Health & Safety standards and safe systems of work are maintained by all team members.
Our new Transport Manager will demonstrate:
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
- Proven Leadership skills with teams of drivers and warehouse operatives.
- Must hold a CPC.
- Must be IOSH Qualified or working towards this qualification.
- Good knowledge of information technology especially Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail.
- LGV license would be advantageous.
- ADR license would be advantageous.
