Position Purpose: Demonstrated capability in all major mechanical disciplines, including hydraulic power units, pneumatic control systems, steam generation and distribution, and electrical systems, with PLCs. Experienced in interpreting technical drawings, conducting system inspections, and supporting continuous improvement of mechanical processes. The specific job function is to ensure that the plant availability is optimised through constant and sustained programmes of maintenance, to company safety and operational procedures and fully comply with HSE legislation and Permit conditions. To carry out planned and breakdown maintenance at the plant prioritising works utilising the on‑site defect reporting system and in agreement with the shift supervisor or plant manager. To assist the manager in the operation of the planned maintenance system, including appropriate record keeping either by electronic or other means. Contribution to the forward planning of shut‑down and capital works, within the operational site confines is of paramount importance.

Key Job Activities:

  • To observe and comply with the company Safety Policy and all safety notices and signs and to ensure that all work is always carried out in a safe and proper manner.
  • To be fully conversant with all engineering aspects of the plant.
  • To take control of the planned maintenance system already in place and develop the programme to ensure all maintenance works are carried out and recorded under the guidance of the maintenance manager.
  • To work closely with the shift supervisors to ensure there are no conflicts with maintenance works and continued plant operation.
  • To provide first line breakdown / defect repairs and or support to shift supervisors, acting immediately and effectively to minimise the loss of plant availability.
  • To closely monitor the safe running of the plant and report to the supervisor or manager any engineering concerns.
  • To inspect, co‑ordinate and maintain the plant maintenance documentation in conjunction with the maintenance manager.
  • To prepare and co‑ordinate the inspection, and effect repairs if required, to all statutory and non‑statutory testing actions required to plant and equipment in conjunction with the maintenance & plant manager.
  • To review and update where required or as and when necessary, site maintenance procedures.
  • To ensure pending unsafe conditions are noted and reported to the maintenance manager.
  • To maintain the mechanical workshop area and subsequent spares availability to ensure minimum downtime.
  • To provide the maintenance manager & plant manager with appropriate stock lists as and when required for audit purposes.
  • The postholder will support the engineering team by covering planned holidays for shift engineers. This includes flexibility to work days or nights to maintain plant availability and uphold safety and performance standards.

Education: Experience (EMEAA): Qualified time served electro‑/mechanical apprenticeship, though a minimum prerequisite is experience in all aspects of mechanical equipment including but not limited to hydraulics, pneumatics, steam. HNC / HND in Electrical Engineering required (or equivalent) / Time Served Mechanical / Electrical Engineer. BS7671 18th Edition. Relevant experience within related industry. Knowledge of health and safety at work regulations. Understanding of Continuous Improvement Methodologies. CAD and general computer skills. Ability to work to tight deadlines. Ability to diagnose problems and deliver on time solutions whilst working alongside the maintenance & plant manager. Heavy industrial plant experience is essential. Welding/Plating skills would be advantageous.
