Position Purpose The Shredding Specialist Sr is responsible for securely processing the client material brought in every day. Ensuring all returned off‑site client documentation is destroyed within agreed timescales. The Shredding Specialist Sr helps the team be a success by ensuring the trucks and equipment are in ready order for service every day. The Shredding Specialist Sr is also responsible for handheld download and upload of service orders. General maintenance and cleaning of the baler, static shredder, dust extraction, inside and outside premises. A flexible approach to the role is necessary as the Shredding Specialist Sr will need to cover both afternoon and morning shift where applicable.
Key Job Activities:
- Overall responsibility for unloading paper, media and product from Shred‑it trucks onto a conveyor belt.
- Responsible for operating all machinery.
- Operate straight truck by backing inside the building.
- Responsible for the maintenance check of all equipment.
- Communicate with CSR’s on pre‑trip, post‑trip and repair requests.
- Responsible for weekly shipments of materials from the warehouse.
- Perform security checks to ensure the branch operations are secure.
- Safeguard office hardware and equipment by locking and activating the security system.
- Monitor, adjust and maintain balers, shredder, bag houses, and overheads.
- Continually inspect containers and write work orders for needed repairs.
- Operate forklifts and perform preventive maintenance on forklift equipment.
- Clean equipment and work area.
- Perform weekly, monthly and yearly preventative maintenance on all equipment in work area.
- Complete a monthly assessment per preventative maintenance task sheet of all overhead systems and repair.
- Maintain Baler equipment.
- Perform repairs on Bag House equipment.
- Initiate equipment repairs and write work orders.
- Use computer terminal to receive and send electronic mail.
- Maintain supplies for Baler room operation.
- Sweep baler room and docks continually.
- Maintain paper dust bags securely and empty bags when full.
- Deputise from time to time to ensure that there is no break in normal day‑to‑day activities on site when the Site Supervisors are on leave.
Education Required: High School or equivalent.
Experience:
- Previous experience using baler equipment.
- Previous experience as a certified forklift driver is desirable.
- Class 2 Drivers Licence is advantageous but not essential.
- Demonstrate mechanical aptitude.
- Utilize technical expertise in problem solving.
- Assist with the training and development of inexperienced Shredding Specialists to ensure they are properly performing their job and meeting safety expectations.
- Listen and interpret verbal and written instructions as it relates to equipment maintenance and operation.
- Read, write and understand English for effective communication.
- Work rotating shifts, weekends and overtime.
- Ability to lift up to 25kg.
