Overview
The successful applicant will engage with children aged 6 months to 5 years old to promote their wellbeing, understand safeguarding and child protection, promote diversity and inclusion, understand the effect of racism on children and adults, and undertake various administrative duties.
About the Employer
Stepping Stones Montessori Nursery was established in 1996 and caters for 29 children from 6 months to five years old.
The nursery occupies the ground floor of the church and employs seven staff members including a chef.
Responsibilities
- Be responsible for the safety and welfare of the children.
- Promote the physical, intellectual, emotional, educational and social development of the children.
- Ensure a stimulating and varied programme of activities is available to the children at all times.
- Ensure that the children are offered a nutritious and varied diet appropriate to their age and development.
- Encourage, through example, alternatives to sexual stereotyping imposed by society.
- Keep the children clean and encouraged to wash their hands, wipe their noses, etc. Children must always be escorted to the toilet.
- Be aware of the effect that racism in society and in us has on children; give every child a positive image of its own ethnic background through staff attitude and play/display materials.
- Notify the officer-in-charge or deputy when each child is collected by their parent/carer.
- Keep progress records and reports for the children.
- Develop and maintain a warm and supportive relationship with parents, children and staff.
- Participate in planning activities.
- Ensure that all toys, equipment and materials are safe for pre-school use and in good repair. Toys must be washed once a week.
- Perform any other duties required by the officer-in-charge or management.
- Training and Qualifications
- Essential: GCSE English (C) and GCSE Maths (C).
- Course Information: Early years educator (level 3), Level 3, Route: Education and early years, Apprenticeship Level: Advanced.
- Working Arrangements: Monday to Friday, flexible hours between 08:00 and 18:00.
- Expected Duration: 2 Years.
