We are looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor to join our Midlands team based out of Wantage, working on projects across the Midlands. As Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining robust commercial and contractual control throughout the post‑contract phase of projects.

Key responsibilities are:

  • Office: A Quantity Surveyor leads the commercial and contractual activities of the construction process, ensuring that all contractual obligations are fulfilled. They will maintain company standards throughout the construction process, reporting to the Commercial Manager/Managing Quantity Surveyor.
  • Work Winning and Tenders: Consults and advises the pre‑construction department throughout the project tender process, particularly regarding the best subcontractors, package scopes and prelims. Receives the tender package from the estimating department. Understands the tender front sheet tender preliminaries and the way in which the values have been included in the tender bills of quantities or contract sum analysis. Engages in the pre‑construction process including Build it in a Day and others, in support of the project team/bid leader.
  • Construction: Examines the contract documents and prepares a list of conditions and obligations for discussion with the Contracts Manager/Site Manager where these may have a financial and programme implication. Consults and advises the site team.
  • Financial and Reporting: Manages all commercial and contractual arrangements with the Main Contract including preparing an external Cash Flow schedule suitable to the Main Contract, preparing an interim valuation, identifying, quantifying, valuing and agreeing variations and issuing notices. Prepares and agrees the final account with the prior agreement of the Commercial Manager/Managing Quantity Surveyor, ideally by Practical Completion and certainly no later than 3 months’ post PC. Regularly consults with the client’s team including minimum monthly advice on the forecast final account. Manages and agrees variations to all commercial and contractual arrangements with all subcontractors including subcontract scope of works, pre‑contract negotiations, placing appropriate subcontract orders, issuing notices and agreeing interim valuations and final accounts. Interviews at least two subcontractors on all key packages (as defined by the Commercial Manager) and ensures appropriate team input to interviews and selection.
  • Controls: Establishes and maintains project profitability, including package targets and overall project launch target. Identifies and addresses contractual requirements in a timely manner. Identifies and manages commercial and contractual risks and opportunities using the Stepnell CVR. Receives positive and regular feedback from the client team.
