The Opportunity:
- Wonderful primary school with a warm, inclusive ethos.
- Based in York
- Full-time role from September 2026 - July 2027
- Monday to Friday (Term Time only)
- £500–£530 per week (Term Time only)
- Ideal for graduates seeking classroom experience before teacher training.
- Opportunity to work with pupils from a range of backgrounds and learning needs.
What the Role Will Involve:
- Provide 1:1 support for pupils with Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans.
- Deliver small group interventions in literacy, numeracy, and social skills.
- Support children with communication and language needs, and those requiring help with self-regulation and routines.
- Assist the class teacher in creating an engaging, inclusive learning environment.
- Work with pupils who have English as an Additional Language (EAL) — over 70% of pupils speak more than one language.
- Support children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, demonstrating patience, empathy, and consistency.
- Use positive behaviour strategies and contribute to a calm, supportive classroom atmosphere.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- A degree (2:2 or above) or predicted to graduate in 2026
- Strong written and spoken English, and at least GCSE grade C/4 or above in English and Maths.
- A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning and emotional development.
- The ability to build positive relationships and communicate effectively.
- Patience, empathy, and the confidence to set clear, consistent boundaries.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn and take on feedback.
- Commitment to the role for the full academic year (until July 2027).
