Step Into Teaching is recruiting a motivated Maths Graduate Teaching Assistant / Academic Mentor for a supportive secondary school in the B37 area of Birmingham. This is an excellent opportunity to gain paid, hands‑on classroom experience, support pupils in Maths, and build the skills needed for teacher training in 2027.

Whether you are certain that teaching is for you or want to explore education before committing to a training route, this role gives you meaningful experience from day one.

What you will be doing

  • Support pupils in KS3 and KS4 Maths lessons
  • Work one‑to‑one and with small groups to improve confidence, engagement and attainment
  • Deliver targeted Maths interventions for pupils who need extra support
  • Assist the class teacher with learning activities and classroom routines
  • Adapt your support for pupils with different abilities and learning needs
  • Help create a positive, inclusive environment where pupils feel confident asking questions

Who we are looking for

  • A Maths graduate, or a graduate in a related subject such as Physics, Engineering, Economics, Computer Science or Statistics
  • Final‑year students graduating in 2026 are encouraged to apply
  • A 2:2 degree or above is preferred
  • Candidates with strong A‑Level Maths may also be considered
  • A genuine interest in supporting young people and exploring a career in education
  • A confident, adaptable and proactive approach
  • The ability to explain ideas clearly and motivate learners with different needs
