Stephenson Academy provides education for male and female students aged between 9 and 16 years. We are the local SEN provision for students with social emotional and mental health needs (SEMH). We pride ourselves on delivering a high‑quality curriculum, truly individualised to meet the needs of our students, ensuring successful outcomes for all. We have a cohort of staff from all walks of life which has created a truly dynamic and diverse team. This part‑time position (2 days a week) offers a salary of MPS/UPS + SEND allowance.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver mathematics lessons to KS3 and/or KS4 pupils with SEMH and other special educational needs.
- Provide pastoral support and contribute to holistic education within the daily routine.
- Use creative and imaginative teaching methods to engage young people, helping them become more resilient and access education more effectively.
- Build relationships with students, staff, and the wider community, regardless of barriers to learning.
- Communicate with young people at their level in a calm and professional manner.
- Work collaboratively as a team player with staff and students alike.
- Contribute to curriculum development and, where possible, support additional subjects beyond mathematics.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Strong subject knowledge in Maths and proven experience teaching Maths to KS3/KS4 pupils with SEMH and other special educational needs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, a great listener, non‑judgmental, and calm under pressure.
- Experience with conflict resolution and thriving in a busy educational environment.
- Understanding, compassionate, and able to put themselves in others’ shoes while communicating perspectives.
- Required: Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate prior to commencement.
