What is the role? We have a fantastic opportunity to join us in a new role as Bid/BD Manager. The position is to support the Partners and Directors, across all our offices, to grow our extensive Public and Private sector work and reputation by securing high-value projects. This role will be perfect for a collaborative and innovative person with a proven track record of strong bid or proposal writing. Bids: You will be responsible for managing the end-to-end bid process, ensuring that all proposals submitted by SGP are compelling, compliant, competitive and to the highest standard. The opportunity will be key in generating and winning new business, whilst retaining existing clients by overseeing the development of bids that meet client requirements, industry and practice standards. To do this the individual will collaborate with internal teams to articulate the practice\’s expertise, values and innovative solutions, helping SGP to secure exciting, new commissions and framework positions. Working with our Sector Heads and established marketing team, you will bring your own bid management, writing and creative skills to this valued role. Business Development (BD): The right individual will be encouraged to support not just our bid process, but wider strategic Business Development regionally, travelling to the various SGP offices as required. The BD element of the role requires someone with strong presentation skills to represent SGP at industry events and business to business meetings, whilst also building and maintaining long term relationships and supporting the Partners and Directors in arranging BD meetings with targeted clients. Proven experience operating in the bid management and proposal writing process within the architectural and/or construction Industry. Excellent project management, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strategic thinking and the ability to craft persuasive narratives whilst developing strategies to maintain and grow existing client accounts. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating creativity and adaptability, whilst working with the Partner and Director team to deliver to set deadlines. Team collaboration and leadership, working with various internal and external stakeholders. Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly. Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office tools. What Skills and Experience would it be desirable for me to have? Knowledge and experience which aligns with SGP’s Public and Private Sector and/or service offer will be beneficial. Knowledge of architectural terminology, design processes, and project workflows. Familiarity with design tools (e.g. Adobe InDesign) and CRM software. Experience with public and private sector tender processes. Strong presentation skills required to represent SGP at industry events and business to business meetings. What will my Day-to-Day Duties be? Leading and managing the entire bid process from filtering/identifying opportunities with the Partner and Director team to driving the management of strategic opportunities through the EOI, PQQ and ITT stages. Once these are complete, overseeing the submission, interview, award and post-bid activities including Framework Management. Coordinating and ensuring timely submission of high-quality proposals. Developing strategic plans for winning bids and coordinating timelines and resources with Partners and Directors to ensure successful delivery. Acting as the main point of contact for bid-related communications with internal and external stakeholders, whilst agreeing the commercial inputs to any bid required with the Partners and Directors. Internal reporting and presentation to communicate progress and opportunities to the Management Board. Bids Review tender documents and client briefs to identify requirements, deadlines, and evaluation criteria. Drafting, editing, and reviewing bid documents to ensure clarity and compliance to the highest standard that respond to a client’s requirements, ‘win themes’ and quality scoring. Content Creation Write, edit, and proofread engaging and persuasive content for bids, including technical, design, and commercial aspects. Develop and maintain a library of reusable bid materials, such as case studies, team CVs, and standard responses. Work closely with our technical teams and other stakeholders to gather project-specific details and craft responses. Facilitate bid strategy meetings to align submission objectives with client expectations. Whilst the role will be based in either Leicester or Leeds, the successful candidate will be expected to regularly visit and proactively engage with all SGP offices. Quality Assurance Ensure all proposals meet the architectural practice\’s branding, quality, and compliance standards. Incorporate feedback from debriefs to continually enhance our bid quality and success rates. Conduct research to understand client needs, market trends, and competitor activities to identify potential growth opportunities. Stay updated on industry developments, including sustainability standards, digital innovations, and regulations. Administration Maintain accurate records of bid activities and outcomes, including submission logs and success rates. Support the development of marketing materials and presentations as needed.
