At StepChange, our Payroll Team plays a crucial role in ensuring every colleague is paid correctly and on time. We are seeking a Payroll Technician to provide essential support across payroll and pensions processes. What You’ll Do

  • Manage employee changes such as new starters, leavers and contract amendments.
  • Calculate pay adjustments including overtime, statutory entitlements and deductions.
  • Administer benefits like season tickets, holiday purchase, cycle-to-work and childcare vouchers.
  • Review and balance payroll, prepare journals for the accounting system, and ensure all work is completed within the set timetable.
  • Respond promptly to payroll queries via email, phone or face‑to‑face.
  • Support colleagues in accessing e‑payslips and maintain accurate payroll records.
  • Deliver pension communications in line with legislation and provide guidance to employees when required.
  • Carry out general administration and adhere to policies and FCA conduct rules.

About You

  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of HMRC regulations and experience working in a payroll department of similar size and complexity.
  • Highly numerate, able to meet strict deadlines, and confident using Excel, Word, Outlook and payroll systems such as Moorepay.
  • Strong communication skills, self‑motivation and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • An understanding of basic accounting principles and a payroll qualification would be advantageous, but not essential.
