Do you have the experience to assist StepChange in the transformation to AWS and all that comes with it? We are undertaking multiple large technology transformation projects across our business to revolutionize the way we offer our services, moving from on-premises towards cloud-based solutions. This newly created position will be integral to enhancing our technical infrastructure and ensuring best-in-class security.

You will work cross-functionally and collaborate with senior stakeholders across the business while working closely with Technology Services colleagues to implement procedural and technical aspects of Security Operations, including liaison and engagement with the MSSP/SOC.

What will you be doing?

In this role, you will play a key role in implementing, optimizing, and maintaining the cloud infrastructure (AWS), ensuring robust performance, high availability, and comprehensive support. You will also lead on the maintenance of the charity's legacy environments (Windows Server). This role is ideal for someone driven by the ever-changing world of technology and has a passion for researching and understanding new technologies which may contribute to improved, and cost-effective service provision.

We are looking for people with:

  • Legacy Environment Support (Essential): Providing operational support and maintenance for our Windows Server estate. Troubleshooting, patching, and managing upgrades to ensure system stability and security. Supporting the transition of legacy workloads into modern cloud-native solutions where appropriate.
  • Compute & Infrastructure (Essential): Deploying, configuring, and optimising workloads using EC2 and related services. Building and managing resilient and highly available infrastructure across multiple AWS regions and availability zones.
  • Storage (Essential): Implementing and supporting storage solutions within AWS. Designing data lifecycle policies and ensuring efficient, cost-effective storage usage.
  • Networking & Content Delivery (Essential): Configuring and maintaining VPCs, subnets, route tables, Transit Gateways, and VPNs. Leveraging CloudFront, Route 53, and API Gateway for secure and scalable content delivery.
  • Security & Identity (Essential): Applying best practice security principles using IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, and AWS Organisations. Working with the Cyber Security team to embed compliance, monitoring, and governance controls.
  • Automation & Orchestration (Essential): Building Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform. Designing CI/CD pipelines for repeatable, automated deployments. Driving operational excellence with monitoring, logging, and observability tools such as CloudWatch and AWS Config.
  • Monitoring (Desirable): Grafana. Strong troubleshooting skills and diagnostic abilities for BAU escalations. An aptitude for Security and a keen eye for detail. Ideally but not mandatory - Load Balancing, IP Telephony and contact centre services and containerisation.
  • AWS (Strong Experience): Experience/understanding of FCA rules and regulations along with ITIL experience is preferential but not essential. You will have a proven track record in cloud infrastructure with a sound understanding of security (anti-virus, firewalls, access control, etc.).
