Duties as SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs across EYFS, KS1 and KS2
  • Work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to implement individual support plans
  • Provide 1:1 and small group interventions to help pupils access learning
  • Promote emotional regulation, resilience and positive behaviour strategies
  • Assist with personal care and sensory needs where required
  • Help maintain a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
  • Monitor pupil progress and contribute to reviews and target setting

Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Has recent experience supporting children with SEMH needs in a primary school setting
  • Demonstrates strong behaviour management and a calm, empathetic approach
  • Is confident working with pupils who may display challenging behaviour
  • Holds a relevant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • Has a clear Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willing to obtain one
