Graduate Teaching Assistant – SEN
Location: Basildon, Essex
Pay: £500–£530 per week, term-time only
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time for the Academic year
About the Role
Are you a graduate looking to gain valuable experience in education before pursuing a career in teaching, educational psychology or a related field?
We are recruiting a Graduate Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in a mainstream primary school in Basildon. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on classroom experience, develop practical skills and make a meaningful difference to children's learning and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with additional learning needs.
- Support children with SEN, including autism, ADHD and communication difficulties.
- Assist the class teacher with delivering engaging lessons and adapting learning activities.
- Encourage positive behaviour, independence and social development.
- Help create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Monitor pupil progress and contribute to their individual learning goals.
The Ideal Candidate
- Holds a degree (ideally a 2:2 or above) in Psychology, Education, Sociology or a related subject.
- Has a genuine interest in working with children with additional needs.
- Is patient, empathetic, proactive and enthusiastic about supporting young learners.
- Has strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, SEN or child development.
Previous school experience is beneficial but not essential, as the role offers an excellent starting point for graduates looking to enter education.
