Company Description

The UK Government has established UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKIFS) Ltd , a subsidiary of UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), to lead the charge in delivering fusion energy through design and delivery of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) prototype fusion plant.

UKIFS is establishing itself, setting up the company, attracting talent, engaging with industry, developing a supply chain, and planning and constructing of the STEP prototype.

Fusion energy, crucial for combating climate change and ensuring energy independence, is expected to be commercially viable by mid-century.

The UK, led by UKIFS, aims for a prototype fusion plant, targeting first operations around 2040.

UK Industrial Fusion Solutions Ltd. will lead delivery, collaborating with industrial partners and building a fusion supply chain with an estimated global sector value of £7tn per year.

The salary for this role is £32,903 + excellent benefits including outstanding pension.

This position is to be based at Culham, Oxfordshire and onsite working is expected for 3 days each week.

Job Description

This is a varied and highly visible role at the heart of the STEP Programme.

As a key member of the team, you'll help bring people together, keep the programme running smoothly and contribute to an inclusive and collaborative culture.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Providing proactive administrative and executive support to the STEP Programme Manager and Senior Leadership Team, helping to deliver key priorities throughout the business calendar.
  • Managing programme communications, information and correspondence with professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Creating a welcoming and engaging onboarding experience for new starters, coordinating inductions and helping colleagues feel connected from day one.
  • Partnering with the Internal Communications team to deliver impactful programme events, briefings and community activities.
  • Curating and developing content for the STEP HIVE Share Point, ensuring colleagues have easy access to valuable resources and information.
  • Championing inclusion, wellbeing and positive culture as an Inclusion Ambassador and Culture Champion, helping to foster a sense of belonging across the STEP community.
  • Building strong relationships with colleagues across the organisation and acting as a trusted point of contact for programme-related activities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Diary & Meeting

Management: Organise diaries, arrange travel, training, meetings, and site visits.

Coordinate internal and external meetings, including visitor management and site access.

  • Internal Communications: Prepare agendas, take minutes, and monitor meeting outcomes. Ensure clarity and accuracy in all written and verbal communications.
  • Induction & Site Access: Deliver inductions for new starters and visitors, liaising with departments to secure IT access, passes, and accommodation.
  • Data & Record Management: Maintain accurate records and data systems, following organisational policies on IT security and document control.
  • Purchasing & Travel: Manage requisitions and purchases in line with financial delegations. Organise UK and international travel and conference registrations.
  • Recruitment Administration: Support recruitment campaigns, schedule interviews, and liaise with hiring managers to ensure timely completion of processes.

  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A proactive approach and attention to detail.
  • Experience in administration within a complex organisation is desirable.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and champion inclusion and culture within the team.

Qualifications

  • GCSE grade C and above, or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Demonstrable administrative experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Discreet and professional approach.
  • Proven ability to cope with multiple tasks and prioritise appropriately.
  • Excellent IT literacy and competency with Microsoft Office software.
