Job Summary
A Carpenter/Joiner will be employed on work appropriate to their core specialist skills and level of qualification. Responsibilities include routine and non‑routine, non‑complex and complex maintenance work, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures, carrying out additional work such as glazing, locksmithing, scaffolding and wood machinery. The role also requires participation in the Addenbrookes Maintenance Management System and completion of all required paperwork.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings and specifications without supervision.
- Operate complex carpentry equipment and machinery in line with statutory guidance.
- Carry out new work, installation and refurbishment work throughout the Trust premises.
- Perform glazing repairs, metal and fibre ceiling repairs, and planned preventative inspections.
- Maintain confidentiality and awareness of patient and visitor privacy in clinical areas.
- Ensure all timber works are completed to the highest standard and meet quality initiatives.
- Robust data recording and compliance with Trust policies, including data quality and confidentiality.
- Meet any additional management requests and participate in ongoing training.
- Carry out additional responsibilities such as storage handling, use of ladders, and safe work at height.
- Support the Addenbrookes Maintenance Management System – complete job dockets, timesheets and computer‑aided facilities management software.
Additional Skills (Required)
- Safe erection of Tower Scaffolding
- Safe use of MEWP/SAE (high‑level access system)
- Safe use of Building Maintenance Unit
Qualifications
- Completed full Carpentry / Joinery Apprenticeship.
- Completed City & Guilds trade certificate.
- NVQ Level 2 trade certificate or equivalent.
Additional Training (within 3 months of appointment)
- Moving and Handling
- Customer Service Skills
- Safe use of ladders & steps
- Safe use of woodworking machinery and handheld power tools (PUWER).
- Use of departmental safe systems
- Basic electrical safe isolation
Essential Qualifications and Personal Attributes
The post holder must be able to lift and move heavy objects regularly, work with minimal supervision, and exhibit a positive and reliable character.

Salary and Benefits
