What if your next role wasn't just about managing costs, but helping shape the future of an entire port network? At Stena Line, the work you do today helps keep people, goods and businesses connected tomorrow. Our ports are critical gateways across the UK and Ireland, and we're investing in their future.

As our Cost & Contracts Manager, you'll play a key role in shaping and supporting major investments across our port network. Working across a portfolio of port development and infrastructure initiatives, you'll provide the commercial expertise, governance and financial oversight that help turn ambitious plans into operational reality. You'll influence investment decisions, support strategic business objectives and help ensure our capital investments deliver long-term value.

This is an opportunity to step beyond a traditional commercial role. You'll work across multiple sites, collaborate with diverse stakeholders and contribute to infrastructure that supports one of Europe's leading ferry operators. If you're looking for meaningful work, variety and the opportunity to make a visible impact, this could be your next journey.

Some of your key responsibilities:

  • Act as the commercial representative across a portfolio of port development and infrastructure projects
  • Drive capital planning, budget forecasting and investment approval processes
  • Monitor project and portfolio expenditure against approved budgets and investment approvals
  • Identify commercial risks, opportunities and budget variances, providing recommendations to stakeholders
  • Manage commercial aspects of contracts, including change control, claims and final accounts
  • Collaborate on procurement activities, including tender evaluations and contractor selection
  • Prepare commercial updates and reports for project steering groups and senior management

What you will experience:

This is a unique opportunity to work at the centre of major port and infrastructure investments across the UK and Ireland. You'll partner with Project Managers, consultants, contractors and senior leaders, helping to shape decisions that support both our operational ambitions and long-term growth. While the role is primarily based in Birkenhead or Holyhead, you'll also spend time visiting ports and project sites, giving you the opportunity to see first-hand how your commercial expertise contributes to the development of critical infrastructure across our network. At Stena Line, no two days are the same.

One day you could be reviewing investment forecasts for a major development, the next supporting procurement activity or providing commercial insight to senior stakeholders. It's a role that offers variety, challenge and the chance to contribute to investments that have a lasting impact on our business. Most importantly, you'll be joining a business built on strong relationships, trust and collaboration. Guided by our behaviours of being welcoming, caring and reliable, we support one another to overcome challenges, develop professionally and achieve great results together. This is your opportunity to be part of a business that connects people, places and societies every day.

Benefits:

  • Concessionary travel on Irish Sea and North Sea routes
  • A pool car is available for employees to use when travelling to other Stena Line locations for work purposes, subject to availability.
  • 75% discount on UK rail travel
  • Company pension and life assurance
  • Gym and wellbeing discounts
  • Wellbeing cash plan
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Ongoing training and development

Who you are:

At Stena Line your personality matters as much as how good you are at what you do. Regardless of your role, our behaviours welcoming, caring and reliable guide you in your everyday work and the challenges you face. You are commercially astute and naturally curious, with the ability to look beyond the numbers and understand the wider business impact. You enjoy working collaboratively and building trusted relationships with a variety of stakeholders, while also having the confidence to challenge constructively when needed. You bring a proactive and analytical mindset, remain organised when balancing competing priorities and take pride in delivering accurate, insightful work that supports informed decision-making. Most importantly, you're motivated by being part of something bigger, helping shape investments that will support the future success of Stena Line.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Relevant experience in commercial management, quantity surveying or contract administration
  • Strong understanding of commercial management, cost control and financial reporting within capital project environments
  • Knowledge of procurement and contract management principles
  • Experience working with NEC contracts, ideally NEC ECC
