As our Deputy Harbour Master based in Fishguard, you will play a key role in supporting the Regional Harbour Master in the day-to-day management of port operations, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency. This is a fantastic opportunity for a maritime professional looking for a part-time role with real impact, contributing to the safe and effective running of one of our key ports.
Some of your key responsibilities:
- Support the Harbour Master in ensuring safe navigation and port operations in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the management of marine craft operations, including Pilot Boats (where applicable) and other port assets.
- Contribute to emergency response planning and act as a key contact during marine incidents.
- Monitor and maintain aids to navigation (AtoNs), issuing Local Notices to Mariners as required.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe working practices across marine operations.
- Support training compliance and ensure marine staff have the necessary equipment and communication tools.
- Assist with conservancy duties, dredging operations, and marine maintenance planning.
- Provide on-site support during serious marine incidents, including outside of rostered hours, to ensure effective incident management and operational continuity.
