We are working on behalf of a well-established manufacturing client based in Dalgety Bay who is seeking an experienced Buyer to join their dynamic purchasing team. This role is essential in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective acquisition of materials, components, and services that support ongoing manufacturing operations.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity of the supply chain, collaborating with internal teams and external suppliers to drive performance, optimise inventory levels, and support business growth through procurement excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Translate MRP output into actionable supplier communications, ensuring alignment with lead times and inventory targets.
- Expedite orders to guarantee supplier on-time delivery.
- Proactively identify and communicate material shortage risks across the business.
- Maintain accurate ERP data, including lead times, order quantities, cost data, and planning parameters.
- Monitor deliveries to prevent early shipments and manage scheduling adherence.
- Coordinate engineering change orders (ECOs) with suppliers, minimising cost and obsolescence.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Manage inventory levels in line with targets, identifying opportunities to reduce excess and obsolete stock.
- Support departmental and cross-functional projects aimed at continuous improvement.
- Assist in change management initiatives and drive procurement best practices.
- Act as deputy for the Materials Manager when required, including running reports and attending key meetings.
- Monitor potential supply chain disruptions and implement effective risk mitigation strategies.
- Generate and analyse procurement metrics, reports, and KPIs to support strategic decision-making.
- Comply with all health and safety procedures in line with ISO 18001 standards.
- Report any unsafe conditions or faulty equipment immediately.
- Operate only machinery and equipment for which you are trained and authorised.
- Follow all company quality processes under ISO 9001 standards.
- Maintain high standards of product quality and workmanship.
- Support environmental policies aligned with ISO 14001, contributing to waste reduction initiatives.
- Proven experience in a Buyer or Procurement role within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Highly organised with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A team player with the ability to lead or deputise when required.
Hours of work: 4 day week : Monday- Thursday 7am-5pm - 37.5 hours
