A specialist engineering organisation within the defence land systems sector is seeking a Supportability Engineer to join its growing team. The company delivers specialist vehicle recovery systems, winch installations, and chassis integration solutions to UK and international defence customers. Due to continued growth across UK MoD and overseas programmes, an additional equipment support specialist is required to support product and service delivery activities.
Experience working with UK defence project teams is advantageous. Candidates with knowledge of military vehicles or related land systems will be particularly well suited. Familiarity with equipment support processes such as NATO codification, AESPs, REME repair levels, DefStans 00-600 & 00-601, and the Defence Logistics Framework (JSP 886 Vol 7) would be beneficial. A foundational understanding of Equipment Supportability and/or ILS requirements is desirable.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to design reviews to ensure products and equipment are supportable, maintainable, and sustainable throughout their lifecycle.
- Conduct Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA), Ease of Maintenance Assessment (EMA), and Levels of Repair Analysis (LORA).
- Identify maintenance processes and associated resource requirements including spares, tools, test equipment, facilities, packaging, codification, and training.
- Collate logistic support information from internal teams and external suppliers to establish and manage cost-effective Logistic Breakdown Structure (LBS) datasets.
- Provide accurate and timely maintenance/support information to stakeholders.
- Develop and manage technical publications (e.g., AESP, IETP) through production and delivery processes.
- Review technical publications to ensure accuracy and correct equipment configuration.
- Participate in logistic support demonstrations, equipment trials, and produce post-activity reports.
- Support in-service equipment and introduction-into-service activities.
- Assist in resolving obsolescence issues for in-service equipment.
Essential
- Demonstrable experience and/or qualifications in Equipment Supportability and Integrated Logistics Support (ILS).
- Ability to exercise independent engineering judgement and deliver high-quality outputs with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Knowledge of DefStan 00-601 and/or ASD S1000D, and STE-100 for military technical publications (or equivalent experience).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; confident in customer-facing situations.
- Sound understanding of military support environments, processes, and procedures.
- Experience working with external agencies on delivery of technical publications, managing quality and delivery schedules.
- Ability to review and comment on technical documentation to military standards.
- Advanced MS Word and Excel skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- ONC / HNC / Level 3–4 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Understanding of supportability techniques including LORA and EMA.
- Experience supporting logistic demonstrations.
- Working knowledge of MS Project and MS Planner.
Useful
- Knowledge of military recovery vehicles, winches, cranes, wheeled and tracked platforms.
- Experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.
