About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and technically strong Principal Mechanical Engineer to join a growing multidisciplinary team delivering mission-critical and data centre projects. You will play a key role in leading the mechanical design and technical strategy for complex data centre developments across the sector.

This position is ideal for someone with a strong background in mechanical engineering for data centres and a desire to contribute to the development of standards, mentor junior engineers, and work closely with both internal teams and external clients to ensure technical excellence and project success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the mechanical lead for data centre design projects, contributing expert knowledge throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Drive technical excellence across project deliverables, ensuring designs meet client expectations and sector-specific standards.
  • Contribute to setting benchmarks, design guidelines, and quality standards for mechanical engineering within the data centre sector.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to mechanical teams, supporting knowledge transfer and development of emerging talent.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated and consistent project delivery.
  • Work directly with clients to understand their business drivers, organisational culture, and project goals.
  • Monitor project performance, manage risks, and contribute to solutions that address design or delivery challenges.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to industry trends and evolving technologies in the data centre and mission-critical sectors.

Candidate Requirements

  • Strong technical background in mechanical engineering for data centres and mission-critical environments.
  • Proven track record delivering complex mechanical systems design on high-value projects.
  • Excellent client-facing and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels.
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical design principles, best practices, and regulatory requirements within data centre environments.
  • Strong commercial awareness and experience managing project financials and resource planning.
  • Experience collaborating within multi-disciplinary teams, including architecture, electrical, structural, and project management disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional status.
  • Strong digital competency and ability to work with collaborative design tools (e.g., Revit, BIM platforms).
