Steer’s Feasibility Design practice is looking to expand its traffic modelling offer by recruiting a modeller into our London-based team to deliver a broad portfolio of projects. The skilled person will lead the development of microsimulation and local traffic models, provide technical expertise and advice to clients and colleagues, and support the growth of the business. We will support your growth and development in modelling or analysis depending on your preferences, with a personal supervisor and technical guidance to help your career flourish.

Our Feasibility Design team collaborates to help clients deliver high‑profile transport and development projects across the UK and overseas, including multi‑modal highway schemes, liveable neighbourhoods, Wembley Stadium event‑cap mitigation, Canary Wharf development, and active travel/cycle corridors in London and Manchester. Models you produce feed into the development of sustainable, multi‑modal highways; awareness of such design considerations is an advantage. You may support projects such as bus priority and cycle improvement schemes from feasibility through detailed design, and provide analysis for mixed‑use developments on factors such as pedestrian comfort, servicing capacity, and traffic management requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with LinSig and Vissim (or other microsimulation software)
  • Experience of TfL’s Model Audit Process would be beneficial
  • Lead the analysis of multi‑modal modelling assessments with support from the wider design team
  • Working knowledge of traffic modelling standards and guidance
  • Manage sub‑consultants and support staff assigned on a project basis
  • Take responsibility to deliver key tasks on a range of projects
  • Prepare and present reports, proposals, briefing notes, and design reports
  • Manage project budgets exercising effective financial and budgetary control
  • Take part in training to develop both technical and consultancy skills

To be successful in the role, you will:

  • Be comfortable working in multi‑disciplinary teams and contribute positively to resolving complex design problems
  • Take responsibility for key tasks and workstreams
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Hold relevant academic qualifications or professional experience

Benefits

  • Private medical insurance and health screening
  • Life assurance and group income protection
  • Company pension scheme
  • EAP and mental health first aiders
  • 25 days annual leave (and ability to buy and sell days)
  • Season Ticket Loan / Cycle to Work
  • Group Share Incentive Plan
  • Up to 5 days for volunteering activities
  • Discretionary bonus scheme based on annual compensation (dependent on performance)
