Regional HR Business Partner – North

Location: Regional / field based - covering East Midlands, East of England, North East and Scotland, with frequent travel across sites.

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Regional HR Business Partner to join Steer Automotive Group and lead the people agenda across our North region, covering East Midlands, East of England, North East and Scotland. Working closely with our Regional Managing Director, Market Area Operations Managers and Site Managers, you’ll act as a trusted people partner, providing commercially focused HR advice and support across a fast-paced, multi-site operation.

This is a varied role where you’ll have the opportunity to operate both strategically and hands on. You’ll translate our Group People Strategy into practical regional action, support leaders with complex people matters and help ensure we continue to deliver a positive and consistent colleague experience across the region.

You’ll also lead and develop a small regional People team, providing direction, coaching and support across employee relations, people operations and recruitment.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Regional HR Business Partner, you’ll:

  • Partner with the Regional Managing Director and Regional Directors, providing trusted people advice and contributing to regional business planning and decision-making.
  • Translate the Group People Strategy into practical people plans aligned with regional priorities.
  • Provide commercially focused advice on organisational design, workforce planning and business change.
  • Lead and support employee relations activity, including disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance management cases.
  • Manage complex and higher-risk employee relations matters, working closely with the Group Head of HR where appropriate.
  • Coach and support Site Managers to build their confidence and capability in managing day-to-day people matters.
  • Partner with the regional People team to support recruitment, retention, succession planning and talent development.
  • Lead, coach and develop the regional HR Advisor, People Ops Partner and People Ops Administrator.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider People Function, including HR, Recruitment, People Operations and Learning & Talent Development.
  • Use people data and insight, including turnover, absence, headcount and ER trends, to identify risks, opportunities and areas for action.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced HR professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, commercial and multi-site environment and can confidently move between strategic partnering and hands-on HR delivery.

You’ll ideally have:

  • CIPD Level 5 or above, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience working as an HR generalist or HR Business Partner within a multi-site commercial environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and its practical application.
  • Experience managing complex employee relations cases through to resolution.
  • Experience leading, coaching or developing others.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to build credible relationships at all levels, including senior leaders.
  • Experience using HR systems and people data to support decision making.
  • A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel regularly across the region.

Experience within the automotive, accident repair or another multi-site operational environment would be advantageous, as would experience supporting organisational change or restructuring.

Why Join Steer?

At Steer Automotive Group, we believe that how we do things matters just as much as what we achieve.

Our People team plays an important role in supporting our colleagues and leaders across the business, and this position offers the opportunity to make a real impact across our North region.

You’ll join a collaborative wider People Function while having the autonomy and influence to shape and deliver the people agenda within your region.

If you’re an experienced HR professional who enjoys building strong relationships, solving complex people challenges and working closely with operational leaders, we’d love to hear from you.
