At Steer Commercial, part of the award-winning Steer Automotive Group, we specialise in the repair and maintenance of commercial vehicles. As our business continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced and motivated Workshop Manager to lead our workshop operations and drive performance across our repair teams.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious operational leader to take ownership of a high-performing commercial vehicle repair workshop and play a key role in delivering exceptional customer service, operational excellence, and business growth.

As Workshop Manager, you'll be responsible for the overall performance and day-to-day operation of the workshop, leading the Workshop Controller team to maximise productivity, efficiency, quality, and profitability. Working closely with Front of House teams, Parts Advisors, Estimators, and operational stakeholders, you'll ensure repairs are planned, managed, and completed to the highest standards while delivering exceptional customer outcomes.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading and developing the Workshop Controller team, ensuring effective workflow planning, resource allocation, and operational performance.
  • Driving productivity, efficiency, quality, utilisation, and profitability to achieve workshop and business targets.
  • Working collaboratively with Front of House teams, Parts Advisors, Estimators, and other stakeholders to ensure repairs progress efficiently and customers receive an exceptional service.
  • Ensuring all repairs are completed to manufacturer standards, company procedures, and BSI PAS 10125 requirements.
  • Promoting a strong culture of health, safety, compliance, and quality across the workshop environment.
  • Monitoring performance and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and business results.

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience managing workshop operations within an accident repair, bodyshop, automotive, or commercial vehicle environment.
  • A strong people leader with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent knowledge of vehicle repair methodologies, manufacturer standards, and industry best practice.
  • A track record of delivering productivity, quality, operational, and financial performance targets.
  • Strong organisational, planning, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across teams.
  • A commercially focused, results-driven approach, with a commitment to customer satisfaction, health and safety, and continuous improvement.

Desirable:

  • Experience within a commercial vehicle repair or commercial bodyshop environment.
  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, ATA qualification, or equivalent automotive repair qualification.
  • Knowledge of BSI PAS 10125 standards and quality management processes.
  • Experience leading operational improvements and managing change initiatives

What we offer

  • A supportive team culture that values respect, collaboration, and professionalism.
  • Opportunities to develop your career within one of the UK's fastest-growing accident repair groups.
  • Ongoing training and development to enhance your skills and leadership capability.
  • The opportunity to work with industry-leading equipment, processes, and standards.
  • Being part of a company built on excellence, innovation, and integrity.
